VLC Media Player - popularni program za pregled video datoteka, uskoro bi trebao dostići i finalnu verziju 2.0. Svi zainteresovani, mogu isprobati prvu RC verziju VLC Media Player-a.

Pored navedenih promjena u licenciranju, VLC 2.0 verzija sa sobom donosi i nekoliko novina i funkcija. Developeri intenzivno rade na poboljšanju same srži programa, te su i pojedino dijelovo srži potpuno novi. Po prvi put, nova verzija će podržavati i reprodukciju Blu-Ray diskova. RC verzija pruža eksperimentalnu podršku za tu mogućnost.

VLC is a highly portable multimedia player for various audio and video formats as well as DVDs, VCDs, and various streaming protocols without external codec or program.

It can also be used as a server to stream in unicast or multicast in IPv4 or IPv6 on a high-bandwidth network.

VLC can play:
MPEG-1, MPEG-2 and MPEG-4 / DivX files from a hard disk, a CD-ROM drive, and so on
DVDs, VCDs, and Audio CDs
From satellite cards (DVB-S)
Several types of network streams: UDP/RTP Unicast, UDP/RTP Multicast, HTTP, RTSP, MMS, etc.
From acquisition or encoding cards (on GNU/Linux and Windows only)

Modifications available in this build are plenty, touching on packagers, core, access, codecs, demuxers, interfaces, video output, audio output and filters, video filters and stream output. Some modules have been removed, such as the noise filter or the SDL audio output, which has been replaced by native outputs.

New video filters have been added: posterize, sepia, anti-flickering, gradfun (for debanding videos using dithering). As far as audio is concerned, output is now based on AudioQueue API for iOS in the new release and there are new audio resamplers, one using Speex and the other using Secret Rabbit Code.
